She does not believe in nonsense, and has been known to set extra homework for it happening in her class, even though she already gives a lot of homework to begin with. Students not only know not to cross her, but respect her. She was always the biggest supporter of Dumbledore and knew how important it was to protect Harry and keep him at Hogwarts. She is a big quidditch fan and has a strong desire to keep the Gryffindor Quidditch Cup displayed in her classroom. She has even been known to set less homework the week before a quidditch match. Minerva has a biting tongue and is very apparent with her distaste in certain kind of people like Umbridge and Trelawney. While she can be a very severe person, she has also been known to show a softer side when she is overcome with strong emotions. She comforts Trelawney when she is almost thrown from Hogwarts and she allowed Harry and Ron to visit Hermione in the hospital wing at night. She turned a blind eye to the meetings of Dumbledore's Army in the room of requirement. She also allowed the trio to use her classroom for practice during the Triwizard Tournament. While Minerva is past the 70 year old mark she is still someone to be feared when her wrath is evoked. She was not easily overcome by the Death Eaters that got into Hogwarts and made a fairly quick recovery. Her first priorirty is and always has been the safety of her students, but she does not underestimate the student's own abilities. A P P E A R A N C E Played By: Dame Maggie Smith Minerva McGonagall always wears her black hair in a tight bun on the top of her head. It is usually hidden underneath an emerald-green hat that is slightly tipped to one side. She wears matching emerald-green robes and often sports the tartan pattern of her birthplace. She wears square spectacles that ride low on her sharp nose. When in her animagus form she is seen as a grey tabbycat with the same square spectacle markings around it's eyes. H I S T O R Y Minerva McGonagall was born to the McGonagall family in late 1925. Her mother was a muggle from Scottland and her father a pureblood wizard from Ireland. She was born in the little wizarding city of Derry, Scottland, but the family moved to Ireland when she was nearly two years old so her mother could be closer to her own family. The McGonagall family was fairly well-to-do, but they generally minded their own business and ventured into the wizarding world seldom. Minerva attended an all-girls private muggle school until she turned eleven, got her letter and went off to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She was sorted into the Gryffindor house and took great pride in the house and the long history of Hogwarts. Minerva was the top of her class, being one of the most clever witches of her time. She easily made Head Girl and was feared by the younger students because she did not allow any rule breaking under her watch. When Minerva was 13, her parents bore another child, Adelline, and Minerva was immensely happy to finally have a sibling even though, because of their age difference, they would never attend school together. Adelline never got a letter from Hogwarts and the sisters became estranged due to very little time spent together and Adelline's belief that witches and wizards were unnatural after looking forward to Hogwarts and the day never coming. Once Adelline came of age, she left the McGonagall home in Ireland and was never seen nor heard from again. Minerva took this hard and blamed herself for not spending enough time with her younger sister. After graduation from Hogwarts she moved back to her "hometown" of Scottland and attended a continuation school there to further her studies in Transfiguration so that she may one day become a teacher and "mold the minds of the younger generation." It is at this school that Minerva became a registered animagus during her studies. She finished four years worth of work and classes in three, was offered a job in the Scottish Ministry of Magic and granted full citizenship. She declined the job, her heart being with Hogwarts and returned there where she got a job as the Transfiguration Professor. Like everything else for her in life, she excelled in her job and became the Deputy Headmistress and Head of the Gryffindor House. When Voldemort came to power she joined the Order of the Phoenix to fight against him. Her mother being a muggle and her sister a squib, it was only natural that Minerva felt equality for everyone was important. When Albus Dumbledore came to teach at Hogwarts, she became extremely close to him. He was, in fact, the only person she ever told about her sister after hearing about Albus' own sister and they were close throughout the rest of their lives. She was one of the only people who believes Albus when no one else would, and fought again against Voldemort during the second war. She took over the post of Headmistress after Dumbledore died .
